A Bit About Me
Chang Peng Kee, Malaysian, received his primary education from SRJK(C) Kepala Batas, which is currently known as SJK(C) Pei Yu. He started his working life as an Aircraft Technician with the Royal Malaysian Air Force in 1982 after completing his secondary education at Penang Chung Ling High School. While serving in the military, Chang continued his study and sat for the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia examination as a self-candidate in Kuantan, Pahang.
Chang left the Armed Forces in 1987 to pursue his tertiary education at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He was given the opportunity to work as a tutor and later as a research assistant while he was in the final year working on his honours degree in the university. Chang obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours in Communication) in 1991. He returned to Penang and later on worked as a research officer at Universiti Sains Malaysia. He made another return to Kuala Lumpur and started his corporate working life in 1992 as a junior executive with Magnum Corporation Berhad, a public company listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia.
In 1996, Chang was promoted as a manager to formulate and head the Communications Department. He continued his postgraduate study while working in the company and subsequently earned his Masters in Business Administration (General Management) from University of Bath, United Kingdom in 1999. Before leaving the corporate world in 2005 for his doctoral study, Chang was entrusted to head the Marketing and Public Relations Division and as the executive secretary to Magnum Foundation.
After switching to academia, Chang rendered his services in lecturing, training, researching, and consulting to various organisations besides running his own educational business. Before accepting the present post as a full-time lecturer with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in August 2008, Chang has given lectures on public relations, public opinion, crisis communication, research methodology, statistics, principles of communication, information communication technology, etc. to various institutions of higher education, among others, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Mara.
Chang earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Mass Communication from Universiti Putra Malaysia on 17 March 2010. His thesis title was “Comparison of Media and Source Framing in Selected Chinese Newspaper Stories on Bilingual Education Issues in Malaysia.”
In April 2022, Chang retired mandatory from the government services. Upon his retirement, Chang accepted the offer from Taylor’s University as a Senior Research Fellow with the main duty to supervise PhD students in Media and Communication students. Currently, he has reached the cap of 10 international candidates.
